Sunshine State Young Readers Award Competition

The Sunshine State Young Readers Award Program is a statewide reading program for students in grades 3 through 8. The purpose of the SSYRA Program is to encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their fluency. The books selected for the program are chosen for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation.

Our school will be participating in reading the books for the 2023-2024 school year list. All students are encouraged to read each of the books at their own pace and in any order they choose. Once the student completes a book, he or she must take a comprehension test on Accelerated Reader and earn a passing score. Students that complete the challenge of reading 10 books in fourth grade and 15 books in fifth grade will receive recognition and a special award at the end of the school year for their hard work and dedication to reading.
